ADAM 12

The story you are about to read is true.  Names have been changed to protect the innocent.

While we were making our rounds this evening to pick-up flags,  we were stopped by a policeman and asked if we were picking up flags, we assured him that we were.

"Well," he said, "One of the flags was stolen and we recovered it in lower city park.  Stop by the police station when you are done and you can pick up your flag and we'll get more information from you."

Allrighty then......

The good news: the flag and pole were recovered but the flag was torn from the pole (the flag itself was not torn).

The really really good news/really really bad news:  the thief (who was from out of state might I add) was apprehended and now is residing in Yamhill County jail.

The officer who caught the guy, told us he saw him running with the flag and said to himself:  "That guy is definitely NOT from the American Legion".

So..... after picking up the rest of the flags we got to go to the police station and give all sorts of information to the nice officer.  (as a side note, I got so nervous I mixed up my birthdate!)  But once we got all that straightened out, we recovered the flag.

The thief was charged with Theft and Desecration of a Venerated Object.  Punishable by 180 days in jail.

So far, the rest of the night has been quiet.  But.......we shall see.

A Memorial Day to Remember.
